Image result for lumia 540
After the long six months waiting ,the first non-nokia smartphone, microsoft has introduced its upgraded version, lumia 540,in the indian market. The upgraded lumia features a bigger and better battery, improved display, better camera and the prize rages from 1,000 higher than the former ones

The upgraded lumia 540 looks similar to lumia 535,complete with rounded corners and a changeble  coloured back cover that wraps around  the phone. The white coloured demo unit sports a glossy finish. The right edge of the phone features the power and volume rocker keys, in black colour and offer above average tactile feedback. The top edge sports the 3.5mm headset jack while the bottom features the micro-USB port.

The other improvement that Microsoft has made, is in the camera department. Lumia 540 sports an 8MP rear camera (1/4 inch sensor, f/2.2 aperture and 28mm focal length) with auto-focus and LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera for selfie fans. It can shoot video at 848x480p resolution with both cameras. The phone comes pre-loaded with Bing vision, Creative Studio, Lumia Camera, Lumia Selfie camera apps. In our brief time with the phone, we found the camera app to be responsive and the quality of pictures, good.

The LED flash enables the phone to take pictures in the dark and front camera facilitates selfies and Skype chats (more critical as Skype is part of the Microsoft mobile experience). Look oImage result for lumia 540ut for our full review for a verdict on the Lumia 540's camera.

Lumia 540 runs Lumia Denim which is essentially Windows Phone 8.1 with Update 2 with some Nokia-exclusive features.

Update 2 brings an enhanced Settings app that breaks settings items into different sub-heads. It also makes the settings items search-able (through a search button) and brings the ability to pin individual settings items to the Start screen. The Windows Phone Settings app was a big mess and Microsoft has tried to fix it to a certain extent with the update. We like the changes but feel the Settings need an even bigger overhaul.

The update also brings the ability to connect to a Bluetooth keyboard in case you wish to hook up a physical keyboard with your phone.

Microsoft Lumia 540 is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor and 1GB RAM. It comes with 8GB internal storage and supports microSD card slots of up to 128GB for expansion. The phone has a 2200mAh battery which is bigger compared to the Lumia 535's 1905Ah battery. In terms of connectivity, the phone offers 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. Microsoft is initially launching the dual-sim version of the smartphone in India. In our brief use, we did not experience any lag while launching and switching between apps.

Samsung Wants To Build Tizen Apps From India Via Digital Academy

Tizen was meant to be the software bearer for Samsung. But right now it's nowhere close to Android, iOS, Windows and even BlackBerry 10 in terms of performance and popularity. Just to give that a kick start Samsung has worked out its strategy from ground level.

Literally speaking, the Korean major has formed an alliance with Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises or MSME to set up digital academies that will be entrusted with nurturing youth of the country to take forward their Tizen ambition.

In many ways, what Samsung is trying to do is, relying on untapped youth population of the country to set up shop for Tizen and help them in understanding the operating system at a technical and developer level. "Digital Academy course in collaboration with the Ministry, will seek to train youth to develop apps that run on the Tizen OS across a multitude of devices such as smartphones, televisions and tablets", as emphasised by the company.

Adding further to the whole establishment, Samsung has charted out the roadmap that the course will employ and what will be part of the student's curriculum. Samsung Digital Academy course will cover topics such as an introduction to the Tizen platform, the Tizen app development process, testing and debugging, device Application Program Interface (APIs) as well as packaging and installation of designed apps on various devices" the company statement highlights.

And if that isn't enough then students will also get the chance to test out various apps being designed for the platform on their very own Tizen Z1 phones. "Students will also be trained on how to migrate existing apps on to the Tizen platform. The curriculum will be developed by Samsung Research Institutes in Delhi and Bengaluru. "Samsung will also provide the Tizen Software Development Kit (SDK) as well as Samsung Z1 phones for testing purpose", as confirmed by the brand.

The enrolling students aren't required to be proficient in developer languages as per the company and all one needs to be is 12th pass out or a polytechnic student. They've decided to start off this project with 10 centres positioned in cities like Delhi, Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Varanasi among others and going forward they aim to touch 68 centres in the coming years.

Airtel launches 4G services in Chennai

: Bharti Airtel Ltd, India’s largest communications service provider, introduced 4G high-speed Internet services in Chennai on Thursday.
Bharti Airtel was the first to launch 4G in the country in Kolkata in April 2012, mainly for enterprises.
Later in February 2014, the company rolled out 4G for mobile users in Bengaluru. The company is mostly using the 2300MHz spectrum acquired in the 2010 auction to offer 4G services, using the TD-LTE (Time division—Long term evolution) standard. In Chennai, however Bharti has rolled out FD-LTE (Frequency division) based services.
Airtel launches 4G services in ChennaiBharti Airtel customers in Chennai can upgrade to 4G at 3G prices by visiting the company’s stores in the city and getting a 4G sim card.
“The company will use this trial phase as an opportunity to gather valuable customer feedback around the quality of its 4G services,” the statement said.

Xiaomi launches slimmer 10,000 mAh Power Bank Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/technology/story/slim-10000mah-power-bank-launched-by-xiaomi-in-china/1/438062.html

Xiaomi has just revealed a new 10,000mAH power bank for the Chinese market. This will be the slim version of the earlier 10,400mAh Power Bank which was launched in August, last year. The power bank has been listed in the colors silver, red, and champagne on Mi's website. Priced at CNY 69 (around Rs.711), any details about its India launch are not yet known.
Speaking about the product, Xiaomi has said,  "We've just introduced our latest 10,000mAh Mi power bank that's 21.4% slimmer and 30% more energy dense than the 10,400mAh version! This means it can fully charge a Mi Note 2.1x, and iPad 1x."
Much like the previous power bank by the company, this one will also have a micro-USB slot, LED lights for notifications, and a USB slot. There has been a flurry of power bank launches in India of late. In fact, if the device does launch in India, it will be the fourth such launch this month alone.  Asus, OnePlus, and Huawei have released their 10,050mAh, 10,000mAh, and 13,000mAh power banks respectively this month.
With all these devices priced Rs.1,399 or above, and at almost the same battery capacity, Xiaomi will clearly enjoy an advantage right from the offset.

Chinese smartphone maker Meizu announces India entry on 18 May

Chinese smartphone maker Meizu announces India entry on 18 May
Chinese smartphone maker Meizu had released a teaser back in March on its Facebook page hinting at an India launch soon. Well, that date will most likely be 18 May according to Meizu’s Facebook page it seems.
Meizu has used ‘Are You OK? 5.18 see! see!’ as the headline in its promotional, which is a clear reference to Xiaomi co-founder’s viral video of the same name. While the market share of Meizu is nowhere close to Xiaomi, it seems like Meizu is positioning itself as an alternative to Xiaomi phones. Earlier this year, Alibaba had made a $590 million investment in Meizu.

Whole lotta Windows 10 goin' on as Microsoft spells out 6 SKUs

windows 10 tiles backgroundMicrosoft on Wednesday laid out the list of Windows 10 editions it will sell this summer, adding a new academic SKU, or stock keeping unit, and one for smartphones and smaller tablets in the enterprise.
The list includes six editions: Windows 10 Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, Mobile and Mobile Enterprise. That's one more than 2012's Windows 8, which included the now-defunct Windows RT, and the same number of SKUs as 2009's Windows 7 offered for PCs alone.
"No matter which Windows 10 device our customers use, the experience will feel comfortable, and there will be a single, universal Windows Store where they can find, try and buy Universal Windows apps," Tony Prophet, the former HP executive who now leads Windows marketing, said on a companyblog post yesterday, touting one of the primary messages Microsoft has used to bang the drum.
Microsoft's SKU list is divided into two groups. The first, dedicated to PCs, 2-and-1s and tablets 8-in. or larger, includes Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education. The second -- Mobile and Mobile Enterprise -- applies to smartphones and sub-8-in. tablets.
Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise will be the new counterparts to the same-named editions of Windows 8.1. Meanwhile, Mobile and Mobile Enterprise will replace or augment what was formerly the Windows Phone operating system.
Microsoft did not reveal the retail pricing of the SKUs. Although it typically does that closer to the actual launch date, some prices disclosed for past Windows may be initially moot as the company will offer free upgrades from Window 7 and 8.1 to Home or Pro for a year after release.
Windows 10 Home will be the classic consumer edition pre-loaded on new PCs, hybrids like Microsoft's own Surface and larger x86-based tablets.
Windows 10 Pro, pitched by Prophet at small businesses, will add to core of Home with business-specific features like domain joining -- critical for connecting to a company's network -- and will cost more than Home. Business-class computers and other devices will come pre-loaded with Pro.
Windows 10 Enterprise will be available only to customers through volume licensing deals. Businesses with the Software Assurance annuity program will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise free of charge.
Microsoft also confirmed what it had strongly hinted at earlier, and what analysts had assumed for months: Only Windows 10 Enterprise will allow customers to lock down devices with the Long-term servicing branch (LTS) update and upgrade track. Machines on LTS will receive only security patches and other critical fixes, and will be spared the feature, functionality and user interface (UI) changes Microsoft plans to deliver on an accelerated tempo.
Windows 10 Education is a new SKU and, like Enterprise, will be available only to volume licensing customers, in this case schools. Microsoft did not elaborate on the differences between Education and Enterprise, but said, "There will be paths for schools and students using Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro devices to upgrade to Windows 10 Education."
It's likely, then, that Microsoft will let students at schools licensed for Education upgrade free of charge to the SKU from both a new Windows 10 device and from older PCs that had previously been upgraded free of charge from Windows 7 and 8.1.
Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise for smartphones and smaller tablets will have the same core features, but will be differentiated in at least one way: The latter, available only to volume licensing customers, will have "flexible ways for businesses to manage updates," according to Prophet, who did not expand on that.
He may have been talking about the same LTS track that Windows 10 Enterprise on desktops will offer, or referring to support for the new Windows Update for Business (WUB) service, or both.
Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise are the two SKUs now known to also support WUB, which will let businesses manage the update and upgrade cadence by, at least, putting systems into various "rings," or speed tracks. The Redmond, Wash. firm has not said whether Enterprise or Enterprise Mobile will also support more than LTS, although analysts assume so. Nor has Microsoft made it clear whether Mobile Enterprise will connect to WUB.
Prophet continued to use the general "this summer" to describe the Windows 10 release timetable. "We are making strong progress with Windows 10, and we are on track to make it available this summer," he said.

Unlock the smartphone with your iris

The number-pattern code to unlock your smartphone is long passe. The new device on the block would scan your iris before it provides you access.
One of the latest smartphones slated to hit the market in Japan this summer allows users to unlock, sign in to apps, and go shopping using only their eyes.
Japanese mobile provider, NTT Docomo, is releasing a new phone this summer, with a built-in iris scanner.
The Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G uses iris recognition to replace phone passwords, and can even be used to send payments when shopping from your smartphone, slashgear.com reported.
The smartphone uses a front-facing infrared camera and an infrared LED light to illuminate the user's eyes, verifying their unique iris pattern. Besides biometrics, the Android device runs Lollipop 5.0, has 32 GB of storage, 3 GB RAM, and a 5.2-inch QHD display, according to reports.
For the time being, however, the Arrows NX F-04G would be available only in Japan. Big players like Samsung are also working on iris-detecting smartphones, but it will take some time before a device is launched in the market.
